Join us in exploring the nuances between our custom-made Office Walker manual walking pad and the Walkolution 1. In this video, we delve into noise levels and usability aspects such as storage and mobility. Which walking pad will take the lead?
Sound Off: Testing Walking Speed and Noise Levels
We started by evaluating each walking pad at a normal working walking speed. It was crucial to measure noise levels since a quieter operation is preferred, especially in an office setting. Using a sound meter, we gained insights—though capturing a truly realistic sound was tricky, I improvised by playing music from an iPhone 14 at medium volume for consistency.
Though it wasn’t visibly loud, the noise level tipped slightly in favor of the Walkolution, which clocked at around 30-40 decibels, usually settling at 35. The Office Walker prototype sat between 35-45 decibels—just a teensy bit louder but still within an acceptable range.
Easy to Store? Let’s Talk Portability
Storage and mobility are vital, especially for those with limited space. The Office Walker clearly shines here with its compact, easy-to-store design. You can effortlessly lift and lean it against a wall without worrying about it toppling over.
On the other hand, the Walkolution 1, while robust, poses a bit of a space challenge owing to its bulk. Though equipped with wheels for movement, its weight—85 kilos compared to the Office Walker’s 27—makes it quite hefty to maneuver, especially in a cramped home office like mine. Choosing a suitable storage spot is still a puzzle I’m piecing together.
Final Thoughts
While the Walkolution 1 scores with slightly quieter operation, the Office Walker emerges as the portable and more storage-friendly option. Each has its perks, depending on your needs and space constraints.
