Manual Walking Pad Update – New Side Elements

In our latest development for the Office Walker, we’ve taken a significant step with the assembly of new side elements. Curious about how it’s performing? Let’s dive into it.

Improvements and Persisting Challenges

What’s Working Well

The good news? The belt is performing smoothly with minimal friction. The reduction in the periodic clacking noise at the back is another win.

Challenges Ahead

But, as with any prototype, there are hitches. Walking on the treadmill feels jerky, with speeds varying unexpectedly. Additionally, there’s an irregular clacking sound at the back, though less frequent.

Diagnosis and Plan

We suspect that the jerky motion and noises are tied to the track height affecting the bearings’ movement. Adjusting the track’s height could be the key to fixing these issues.

Moreover, I’ve noted potential issues with the new side elements; the bearing sides might be contacting the wall, which I’ll need to investigate further.

Looking ahead, to improve stability, I’m considering ways to add tension to the chain. One idea is modifying the side elements to allow the slats to hang freely, leveraging gravity for natural tension.
